The economic, historical, and cultural conditions where we live affect the profitability and success of our business. Make a commitment to get involved in your community with your actions and your prayers. As scripture reminds, "Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you." (Jeremiah 29:7, NASB)
Here are some ways you can get involved:
· Support a candidate for city council or the school board. Send a note of support. Realize that a check for $25 to $50 can impact a smaller race.
· Help a ministry that strengthens your community. It could be the Salvation Army, a local crisis pregnancy center or a Gospel Rescue Mission. Offer to use your business expertise to strengthen them.
· Volunteer on a civic committee. In my town of Anthem I am part of the town’s finance committee. I offer analysis for the town’s budget, validate the cost of proposed projects, and review major contracts.
Businesspeople working together can have a transforming influence on the cities where they live. They can strengthen the business climate as well as the business. Take the Lord’s light with you and get involved in your community.
