Just because you or management issues instructions or establishes a new policy, we can't assume everyone will jump on our bandwagon immediately. Some forget, others don’t take your instructions seriously while still others may just ignore you. A king ordered, "I issued a decree that any man who violates this edict, a timber shall be drawn from his house and he shall be impaled on it" (Ezra 6:11 NASB).
While I don't suggest impaling people who fail to adhere to directives, consequences need to be established if you are serious.
Violations of credit policy or lowered customer service levels are serious. Staff need to know the rules. Violate the rules during a sporting event, you get penalized. Likewise, we need to identify consequences should we be ignored.
One person told me, “Your lucky to be a CEO, when you tell someone to do something, they do it”. I explained, just because I give instructions doesn’t mean they will be followed, each instruction needs to be follow up.
Putting teeth into your key directives will strengthen your leadership.
