My iPhone List

The longer I live the more I recognize the fallibility of my memory. I can forget the brilliant idea I thought of five minutes ago and other life-changing inspirations. Now, when a thought crosses my mind including ideas or tasks, I take out my iPhone and place it on my daily list. Later that day I transfer these items to the other lists that I maintain.

For example last, night I remembered that I needed to call somebody. Because it was too late to call, I placed it on my iPhone list and transferred it to my to-do list for the next day. If I hadn’t put it on my iPhone immediately, it probably would’ve slipped my mind and I never would’ve made the call.

Sometimes when talking to a client, a thought hits me for a good blog idea. Perhaps I have had a bad customer service experience or exceptionally good service or I hear something on the news or see an article that is a good topic for a future blog. I put the thought on my iPhone list and later transfer it to my blog idea file. I use this file when I write my weekly blogs. I’ve learned the hard way that brilliant ideas may be lost forever if I fail to write them down immediately.

The other day I was in a meeting when somebody else presented multiple concepts. I wanted to make several points but I did not want to interrupt because they were covering a large amount of material. Again I used my iPhone list to identify the points I wanted to make at the conclusion of the presentation. Then, I was able to cover the concepts in an orderly fashion.

Other times when I’m in a meeting, a concept hits me that I want to bring up later. While it may be relevant to the discussion, I know it isn’t time to interject the idea.  I place the item on my iPhone list so that I do not forget to bring it up during the question time later.

In Scripture we see an example. “Moses then wrote down everything the LORD had said. He got up early the next morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain and set up twelve stone pillars representing the twelve tribes of Israel.” (Exodus 24:4, NIV) Capture your ideas by writing then down. This is a good example to follow.
