Prayerfully Hire Staff

Posted by: Steve Marr

Tagged in: Untagged

Hiring staff is one of the most important decisions we make. We trust our staff with our customers, our money, and the reputation of our business. A break in trust in any of these areas will have a major negative impact on our business. In some instances the wrong person can literally bankrupt a company.

The Lord gave us the following model for hiring staff.  “In those days, Jesus went out to the mountain to pray, and He spent the night in praying to God. When daylight came, He called His disciples to Him and chose twelve of them, whom He also designated as apostles.” (Luke 6:12-13, NIV)

When hiring staff, we need to check background credentials, skills, abilities and competencies. However, in our process we must not rush to hasty conclusions; but take our choice to the Lord.

Whether filling one job opening or many, pray through the decision. Ask the Lord to send you the right people for your business that will be trustworthy, honest, have a heart for service, and will accept direction and correction. Since many businesses cannot consider hiring only Christians, it is important to ask the Lord to send you those who display Christ-pleasing attitudes even if they have not accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Also ask the Lord to bring those to whom you could witness.

Ask the Lord to show you any issues during your interview process.  During your review process, look for negative attitudes so that you will not be inclined to make an error and a poor hire. Hiring the wrong person, even if weeded out during probation, is costly in terms of time and money. Ask the Lord for His wisdom when hiring so that the quality of your team will improve and help grow your business.
