The Lord told Isaiah, "Can the prey be taken from the mighty man...?" (Isaiah 49:24 NASB). Everyone has competitors striving to take away customers, but effective businesses fight for every customer. Whenever you see an attack through advertising, a new[…]

New Merchant Credit Card Rules

Posted by Steve Marr in Untagged

Most new credit cards issued today have a new chip implanted in the card. Right now, most customers and merchants don’t notice them. However, after October 1st, 2015, a merchant will take on a large liability for credit card fraud unless they update their card reading equipment.

The new cards are called EMV for Europay/MasterCard/Visa and are thought to be more secure by the banks issuing them. The chip in the card is more difficult for a criminal to counterfeit. Each use of the card generates a unique one time authorization for the transaction that is very hard to copy.

Don’t Sell Your Old Smart Phone

Posted by Steve Marr in Untagged

In the past I would be inclined to sell my old phone, I like to get something rather then just scraping my old phone. CNN ran a story why this may not be a good idea:  http://cnnmon.ie/1do6XGx

Apparently, your old data, even if erased may be recovered and read by a new phone owner.

If you don’t want your personal date, e-mails, photo, social media and everything else read by others, just smash and junk your old phone. The $50 or $100 you get is not worth the price.  This includes trade ins. Think identity thieves.

The One World Trade Center

Posted by Steve Marr in Untagged

The cost to build the tower, the tallest in the Western Hemisphere, was nearly $4 billion. Add another several billion for side buildings. The main tower, One World Trade Center, is only two-thirds full with a few tenants occupying side buildings. This may be a financial disaster for owner, Larry Silverstein.

If you don’t like the salary range in in your current job, you may need to consider a change.

City Planning: Why Strategic Decisions Matter

Posted by Steve Marr in Untagged

Palmer Heenan recently retired after 32 years as Mayor of Grosse Pointe Park Michigan, the Detroit suburb I lived in for many years. I actively supported his election and served on a city commission during his tenure. Often political officeholders don’t look very far down the road. Palmer Heenan made two strategic decisions after being elected and was able to implement those decisions into policy. Each had a long term, positive impact on the city.
