Mini Mall Opportunities

Posted by Steve Marr in Untagged

I have written about the excess rental space in mini malls and strip malls. I’ve shared how this presents a problem for landlords but an opportunity for businesses. We all know that e-commerce is on the increase. Currently it is growing about 15% a year and accounting for 8 % of all retail sales. Contrast this with total retail sales up 3.3% this year and you can see which way the wind is blowing.

Declining Newspaper Sales—Stunning!

Declining Newspaper Sales—Stunning!

I ran across an article by Richard Tofel, President of ProPublica. His article documented how rapidly print publications have lost readers from March, 2013, through September, 2015. All newspapers show shocking declines. The numbers for those with paid readers and doing “better” are still on life support.  Those doing worse have already been carried to the cemetery.

The Wall Street Journal, which many would call a leading newspaper, has seen paid subscriptions drop 24%. Any business losing 24% of its sales should work on ways to reinvent itself and stop the bleeding. The bleeding is not just a trickle from a cut but more of a gush from a sliced artery.

Dentist Sued Over Christian Music

Tina Marshall, a dentist on Lake Orion in Michigan, played Christian music in her dental office. Allegedly, several employees complained and claim that the dentist fired or disciplined them to retaliate. I am not an attorney, so be careful not to take my comments as legal advice.

I can get carried away with my phone reading messages, e-mail or checking out information. I understand the distraction potential.

Like many, I watch news and follow the presidential campaigns in the Republican and Democratic parties. Sometimes we can learn lessons from watching how candidates spend money in an effort to win.
