The Lord’s Empowerment at Work

In the book of Exodus the Lord gives Moses very detailed instructions for the construction of the tabernacle and the clothing for Aaron to wear when ministering before the Lord. The handiwork required was extraordinary as outlined in scriptures and indicated that Moses was to give the work to skilled people. However, the Lord also told Moses “So Bezalel, Oholiab and every skilled person to whom the LORD has given skill and ability to know how to carry out all the work of constructing the sanctuary are to do the work just as the LORD has commanded." (Exodus 36:1, NIV) Part of my takeaway from this scripture was that natural skill was not enough to complete the work; the Lord specifically gave the skill and ability needed to complete the complex project.

In our work we may easily gloss over the importance of seeking God’s empowerment in every aspect of life including our work. In building the Lord’s tabernacle, a person may complete an adequate job in their own strength; but to complete the work of the Lord to the highest standard only God could equip each person with the exact skill and ability needed.

In my work I ask the Lord to specifically empower me with his Holy Spirit to be effective in a way that I’m unable to do in my own strength. I’ve learned, at times the hard way, when I operate by my own strength I only go so far. When the Lord empowers my work I am more effective.

Every day we need to ask the Lord to empower us to be the most effective. Part of my prayer is to ask the Lord to show me if I’m doing today the work He has for me to accomplish. The craftsman could have created wonderful work but if it wasn’t the work the Lord wanted for the tabernacle, the effort would’ve fallen short of God’s perfect will. Likewise if the Lord did not empower the craftspeople to effectively complete the work, the final product would’ve fallen short.

As you approach a new day, I encourage you to take your schedule and work to the Lord and ask Him to show you any adjustments that need to be made. Ask the Lord to give you the skill and ability beyond your own strength to effectively serve your business and your customers. Then, when others see your effectiveness, give credit to the Lord as praise and witness. Besides, we accomplish much more when we focus on seeking the Lord’s empowerment rather than continuing to operate in our own strength.
