When Issuing Instructions and Directives Ask For Prompt Implementation

Posted by: Steve Marr

When you issue instructions, establish a timetable to follow-through; otherwise, delays may blunt the effectiveness of your plan.  The Lord spoke to Ezekiel and said, "None of my words will be delayed any longer" (Ezekiel 12:28 NASB).

Outline your plan or action items, issue your instructions, in writing if necessary, and be clear when follow-through is expected.
Your idea of prompt, quickly, ASAP or soon may be different then another’s understanding of these terms.

Often I have asked, please send out these invoices soon, or please contact the customer promptly and resolve the issue only to find days passed before accomplished.  Develop the habit of giving a specific time parameter, and get an agreement from others the job will be done on time.

Make a note to follow up, you can use your task list or calendar as an easy way to remember to follow up and confirm the job was done.

The best idea can be ruined by a delay in implementation.

State your instructions clearly, affirm what you expect, and set a clear deadline for implementation. Then watch your ideas take off.
